“God, Everett, you feel so good,” I whine as I move up and down on his cock like a woman possessed. “So thick, so big.”

He chuckles and it causes his cock to jerk inside of me.

“Please.” I whine, I need more, I need him to take me the way only he can.

“Fuck, Say,” he grinds out as he flips us over. He cradles my head as he thrusts into me. “I wanted this to be gentle.”

  “I want you. Not gentle.”

His eyes close quickly before opening up, this time they’re bright with lust and need. “Christ.”

In that moment I know that he’s lost the last tiny thread of control he had, he thrusts into me like he used to, I moan as my fingers pull at the sheets beneath me. “Everett,” I beg. “More!”

He’s careful of my bump but continues to thrust into me, I’m in utter ecstasy right now.

“Get there, Say,” he tells me. “I need you to get there.”

His fingers go to my pussy and that’s all that it takes for me to come apart. His name is a plea on my lips.

He kisses my neck, his head resting against my shoulder as he slowly thrusts into me. “God, Say,” he whispers. “We need to do that again.”

I giggle. “I’ll let you recover first.”

He looks up at me. “Around you, that doesn’t seem to be a problem.”

I glare at him as his cock twitches inside of me. “Go away, I need sleep.”

He kisses me softly. “Okay.” He pulls out of me and I instantly miss the connection we had. He pulls the blankets up over my body and kisses the side of my head. “In the morning, you’re mine,” he promises me.

“Definitely.” I close my eyes as I let out a yawn. He climbs back into bed a couple of minutes later, I’m so tired that I can’t even open my eyes.

  “Night, Say,” he whispers.

“Love you,” I reply softly as I reach for his hand and hold it tightly.

  Chapter Six

Things between Everett and I have gotten better in the past week. There is, however, an elephant in the room, he’s yet to tell his mom about us and the baby. I’ve thought about bringing it up, but things have been going so well, I just don’t want to get into an argument with him, but I’m going to have to. I need to know why he’s not telling anyone about me and the baby. Is he ashamed?

He’s gone into work this morning, he’s had an important meeting along with having a meeting with human resources. I had hoped that it was about him getting rid of Zara and hiring someone else but that was wishful thinking. He’s bringing in new procedures along with a new software. By the time I go back to work, I’ll have to learn everything new. I’m not looking forward to it but I’m hoping that if Zara’s still there, she’ll know what she’s doing.

“Hey, babe,” Cassie’s voice calls out as she walks into the sitting room. Her nose scrunches up. “Oh, what’s happened now?”

  I frown. “Nothing, why?”

Her brows practically hit her hairline. “Your face says otherwise. What’s he done now?”

I laugh. “What makes you think it’s him?”

She sits down beside me. “It’s always him, or that mother of his.”

  “I’m probably being stupid.”

She throws her cell onto the table. “How about you let me be the judge of that?”

I nod. “I’m upset that Everett still hasn’t told his mom about me or the baby yet.”

She gasps. “Say, are you serious?”

I nod. “Yeah, the last time we spoke about it, he got annoyed. I haven’t brought it up since because I don’t want to start an argument, but it’s getting to me.”

She looks at me with concern. “I’d be pissed if I were you. You need to ask him why he’s keeping you both a secret.”

  “I’m scared of his answer.”

She crosses her arms over her chest. “Say, that woman is vile. Nothing that she says is true. In fact, you’re better than Everett is. Just because he’s rich doesn’t make him better than you and it certainly doesn’t make that witch better than you.”

“What if he listens to her? Takes her side and agrees that he should marry someone who is rich or in their circle? I can’t match them, Cass. She’s made it very clear she wants Everett with Zara.” I sigh, it hurts thinking about this, especially what happened the last time I saw that woman. “Zara’s gorgeous.”

Cass tuts. “That woman’s far from gorgeous, she may be on the outside but we both know that men want a little more than looks from their women. She’s useless.”

“I love you.” She always knows how to make me feel better.

She reaches for my hand and gives it a squeeze. “I love you too. You are amazing, gorgeous, and smart. You deserve the world, Say, it’s what your mom wanted for you; what I want for you. If Everett can’t give you that, maybe it’s better if you call it quits before the baby’s born.”

A lump forms in my throat. “You don’t know how many times I’ve thought the exact same thing. I don’t want my baby to be a dirty secret. I don’t want to be someone’s secret. I know I deserve better, we deserve better, but I love him, Cass.”

She nods. “I know you do, trust me, I get it. A wise woman once told me that you don’t need a man to validate you.” I smile at her, that’s what I’ve been telling her since she ended things with Paul, her cheating ex-fiancé. “Yes, being in love can be the best feeling in the world, but, Say, you need more than love to have a relationship. You can’t be the only one giving something.”

I don’t respond, she’s right. I really need to talk to Everett.

I hear the front door opening and both Cass and I turn.

“Good afternoon, ladies,” Everett says with a smile on his face, “Cass, had I known you were here, I’d have brought lunch for you too.”

Cass gets to her feet. “No worries, I’ll leave you two to talk.” She gives me a pointed look and I know that she’ll be calling me later to see if anything has been said.

Everett watches as Cass leaves. “Talk about what?” he asks, turning to face me.

I sigh. “Talk about why you’ve not told your mom about me or the baby.”

The smile is wiped from his face. “Christ, Say, not this again.”

I frown. “Not this again? Everett, you can’t be serious?”

He glares at me. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

I get to my feet. “Tough, because I do.” I cross my arms over my chest, I’m going to have this conversation with him whether he likes it or not. “Are you ashamed of me?”

His eyes widened in shock. “What? God no!”

“Then what is it? What’s the reason that you won’t tell her? Hmm, and don’t give me that crap about you wanting me to rest. That’s not what this is about.”

“Saylor, my mom is—” he searches for the right word, “difficult at the best of times, she’s set in her ways and I know that when she finds out about the baby, she’s going to come here. I don’t want you dealing with that.”

“By set in her ways, you mean she doesn’t like me because I’m not Zara and I don’t have money.”

  He winces at my words.

“This is her grandchild, Everett. Don’t you think she deserves to know the truth?”

He sighs. “Are you ready for this?”

I throw my hands in the air. “You know what, you don’t want to tell her then don’t. I will not be your dirty little secret and neither will my baby.”

  “Our baby,” he growls.

I wave my hand dismissively in the air. “Yes, our baby. I don’t want to stay in a relationship where it’s built on lies. I won’t do this, Everett.”

He runs his hands through his hair. “Fine, I’ll take her to dinner and tell her.”

I don’t say anything, I’m not sure if I believe that he will go through with it. I walk upstairs, needing some air. Things are too tense right now, I don’t want to argue anymore, it could lead to things being said that neither of us mean.

  The fr
ont door slams shut and I grit my teeth not wanting to let the tears fall.

It’s hours later when I hear the door open again. I’m lying in bed, it’s almost ten in the evening, I’ve not heard anything from him, not even a text message letting me know that he’s okay.

He climbs into bed without saying a word.

  Childish.

I turn over, if he can’t be assed talking to me, I’ll be petulant too.

By the time I woke up this morning Everett had already left. I’ve spent all day worrying about him. I’ve sent him a text message and tried to call him but hasn’t had any response. I’m angry, beyond angry.

Cass stopped by this afternoon, offering me comfort and trying to help me work things out. It didn’t help, I’m more confused now than I ever was.

There’s a knock at the door, and I hear the nurse shouting that she’s answering it on her way out. She’s been here to check on me and take my vitals along with the baby’s. I’m lying in bed, the constant worrying about Everett has made me tired.

I hear an irritated voice, one that I recognize instantly. She’s ordering the poor nurse around like she owns her. It’s not long before footsteps sound up the stairs. The door opens and I hold my breath as Everett’s mom pushes the door open and stands there looking at me as though I’ve just ruined her life.

  Chapter Seven

“Mrs. Barrett, what are you doing here?” I sit up and push my hands through my hair.

“I’m trying to stop my son from making the biggest mistake of his life. You don’t belong in his life, Saylor. You never have and you never will.” She is standing at the foot of the bed pointing her finger at me.

“He loves me. He wants this baby. He told me so.”

She laughs, like Maleficent, loud and evil. “He told you so, did he? Well, let me tell you what he said to me last night. He told me that you are just a piece of ass to him.”

I gasp, my hand instinctively covering my mouth.

She continues, clearly in the zone right now. “He doesn’t know how to get rid of this little problem,” she waves her hands around in front of her at me, “without breaking you and giving you a chance to ruin his reputation.”

“I would never do that regardless of how he feels.” I get out of the bed and stand in front of her. “This is my baby and if he doesn’t want it then he can tell me himself. I’ve offered to do this on my own, but he won’t let me.”

“He doesn’t want you spreading rumors about him not looking after his responsibilities. I just told him that he needed to have a paternity test when the child is born.” She looks me up and down with disgust written all over her face. “God knows, it could be anyone’s.” She turns and leaves the room, moving downstairs.

I’m shaking, both in anger and in fear. What if what she says is true? Does Everett not want our baby? Will I be left on my own to bring him or her up? I don’t care. This baby will be loved whether it has a father and grandmother or not.

Determined, I make my way downstairs to find her in the lounge, leaning up against the fireplace.

She turns to face me. “Look, Saylor. You’re an intelligent woman. Everett is trying to do the right thing here. He wants to take care of his mistake, if it is his.”

I open my mouth to protest, but she just looks at me enough to cut me down.

“You’re not the right woman for him. All you are doing is holding him back. He’s been taking more time off recently and the business will suffer. He lives for his business. That is the only thing that he loves more than me. He doesn’t have room for anyone else in his life right now.”

I fall backwards, luckily the couch is behind me. Did he really say those things about me? He wouldn’t, would he? Is that why he didn’t talk to me when he got home last night and why he was gone this morning? Maybe he sent his mother here to save him from having to do it. It’s his easy way out.

“I love him and he loves me.” I have to try and keep him.

She laughs again, this time walking closer to me. I’m surprised when she kneels in front of me and takes my hands in hers.

“Saylor, he doesn’t love you. He just knew that you were easy and Everett can get lazy sometimes and is happy to do ‘easy’. But I can tell you here and now that he doesn’t love you and he doesn’t know how to tell you.”

“Why are you telling me this?” The tears are rolling down my face. I’m devastated. How could he not even tell me himself? What kind of coward gets his mother to tell me?

“Now, dear, I know you think I’m an evil witch, but I’m not.” She reaches into her bag and pulls out something that looks like a wallet. “I will arrange for two hundred and fifty thousand dollars to be put in your bank account if you leave him today.” I gasp. Is she serious?

“If you give me your bank account details then I will transfer the money right now.” She looks at me with glee in her eyes. They are glistening. So are mine, but mine are full of tears.

“I don’t want your money, Mrs Barrett. I want a father for my child.”

She laughs. “Fine! A half a million.”

“Are you joking?” I can’t believe she increased her bribe to a half a million dollars.

“No, my dear. I want you out of Everett’s life. For good. I know that you want a father for your child, and with that amount of money you can get one. But you’re not having my son. Now, I want you gone today and the money will be in your bank by end of day.”

“You’re not listening to me. If your son can’t be man enough to tell me himself that he doesn’t love me and doesn’t want us to stay around, then he doesn’t deserve to see his baby.”

“Who says it is his baby? I’m giving you the opportunity to have a good life, Saylor. Take it.” She lets go of my hands and stands up, waltzing out of the lounge and slamming the front door behind her.

  Chapter Eight

I sit here for nearly an hour, I’m in shock. Does Everett really not care about me? Has she just made all of that up or is it true?

He didn’t speak to me last night. He’s not answered any texts or calls today. I try him again, but it goes into voicemail. I ring the office but Zara tells me that he’s busy. He’s never been too busy to talk to me before.

What about the thing with Zara when I fell down the stairs? Maybe I was right and he was with her. But then again he has been worried about me. He was angry when I went out with Cassie for lunch, why would he react like that if he didn’t care?

It’s all so confusing and I wish I could have a drink right now. I would love a cosmopolitan right now, or even a straight vodka would do. I reach down and lay my hand over my stomach. “Hey, I’ll never stop loving you, baby. We can do this on our own. We don’t need him. I’ll be both a mom and a dad to you. You’ll never feel less love than you deserve.” The tears flow down my cheeks and off my face. I don’t care. I don’t give a damn what I look like, because no one is going to see me this low ever again.

After wallowing in my own self-pity for half an hour, I stand up and take charge. It’s time to take control back of my life and do what’s best for all of us.

Upstairs I pack my suitcases and call Cass at the same time.

“Hey, Cass.” I open my drawer and throw my underwear in all at once.

  “Hey, Say, you okay?”

“No, I’m not. Please don’t ask me what’s going on, but can I come and stay with you please?”

“Of course you can, but I don’t want to get in between you and Everett. What’s going on?”

“Yeah, you’re right it’s not fair to put you in the middle. I’ll just stay tonight and then I’ll go home. Dad will look after me.”

“Say, you sound like a mad woman. What’s going on?”

I sigh. I guess I need to tell her something. “His mom came over today and offered me money to leave him.”

“What the fuck? What did you say?”

“I told her that he loves me and she can’t pay me off.”

“So why are you leaving then?”<
br />
“She told me that he told her last night that he doesn’t love me and he’s embarrassed by the fact that I’m pregnant. I can’t stay with a man who doesn’t love me; baby or not.”

  “He does love you.”

“So why didn’t he tell her until last night? Why did he come home after dinner with her and not talk to me, he was gone this morning and he won’t answer any of my messages or calls. He doesn’t care, Cass. He doesn’t love me like I love him. I have to let him go. Don’t you see that?”

“No, I don’t see it like that. I’ve been there and seen how much he loves you. You can see it in the way he looks at you.”

“I thought that too, but I’m just holding him back and I can’t do that to him. I love him too much.”

“Saylor, you need to really think about it before you do this. There’s no turning back when you’ve done this.”

“I know, Cass. I know. I’m going to leave him a letter explaining everything. If he won’t answer my texts or calls then I’ll just have to do it the old fashioned way.”

  “If you’re sure.”

  “Yeah, I am.”

After I hang up I finish packing and drag my suitcases down the stairs and into the back of my car. When everything is packed away, I go back into the kitchen and rummage around for a piece of paper and a pen.

Sitting at the table, I have the pen in my hand, flicking it against the table—tap, tap, tap as I think about what I’m going to write.

  Then it comes to me.

  My gorgeous Everett,
